PHYS12076 Properties of Materials

Course details

To study the thermal and dynamic properties of fluids and solids and their application to a range of technical problems. On completion of this course students should have: reviewed and extended their knowledge of the ideal gas laws and the laws of thermodynamics; reviewed and extended their knowledge of the kinetic theory of gases; become familiar with the properties of real gases; studied the basics of electron microscopy, and their application to materials investigation; become familiar with the structural properties of solids and their investigation by X-ray diffraction; investigated the way in which real solid properties influence thermal and mechanical behaviour.
